Our Key West Spring Break

I really wanted to do this vacation in style. So I started on the first day, the trip to the airport in fact, with these bad boys.

And I lasted all the way to Key Largo before I had to change into flip flops, but I gave it a good run.

This is officially the scene on the crime. About two minutes after promising the lady at the rental car company that I would be the only one driving the car Doug and I made it safely out of the lot and pulled over to switch seats. And we are on our way, life is good!

Approximately 3 hours into our 133 mile drive (it is slow moving on the coastal highway) it became very apparent that we should have probably pulled over for sun screen quite a while back. My husband is bald for god's sake.

But we made it! WooHOO! We look pretty normal in these pictures but let me assure you that under these outfits are some pretty serious farmer tans. I believe this is our karma for lying to the rental car lady.

After a small struggle with the hotel staff they did in fact let us into our room. It was beautiful. Unfortunately I didn't take very many pictures but hopefully you can get the idea.

That night we wanted to go out and cheer on the Hoosiers. So we all put on our red and off we went.

The next day we were rested and ready to take this vacation by the horns. We started with breakfast at the cutest little french cafe.

The Banana Cafe

I had a ratatouille filled crepe topped with a fried egg. It was awesome. I forgot all about taking the picture until I had already devoured the first bite.

Next we went to the Hemingway House.

I really loved it here. The covered balcony and all those windows. I can only imagine what it would be like if there was still a lady living in it. To think It was purchased for only $8,000 in the 1940's I believe but don't quote me on that.

Now the pool on the other hand, his wife had it installed ten years later for $20,000. Not such a good deal. But I thought it looked quite inviting.

Of course we climbed to the top of the light house.

Very fancy vintage Rolls Royce we saw on the street.

And those roosters were everywhere! Where are all the chickens? Seriously?!

Part of the reason that I wanted to go on this beach vacation is that I am completely obsessed with beach cottages these days. Unfortunately I live in the woods in Indiana, and the neighbors would most likely gawk if I started shipping in sand. But I couldn't help but take pictures of a few to share here.

Those covered porches get me every time!

Really who doesn't love a vintage telephone booth?

Next we headed down to the dock to check out Half Shell Raw Bar

The oysters were amazing!

Just down the dock was this cute little yellow house that had a cute little man holding a pie out front. How could we resist?

Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe

Of course we had the Key Lime Pie On A Stick Dipped In Chocolate. Duh.

The next day was St. Patrick's day. We were so blessed to be able to spend the day on the water. It was beautiful. I finally got a little relaxing done.

Later that night the Hoosiers played again. Of course we went out to cheer them on. I must say that I was bleeding Hoosier, because for the very first time since I first heard the words "Irish" and "Whiskey" put together I didn't wear green on St. Patrick's Day. GAAAASSSPP! I wore red. We went to a cute little spot called Rum Barrel.

Wouldn't you know it we met a leprechaun.

Our final day in Key West we finally made it to Blue Heaven we waited an hour and a half. It was worth it though.

Doug ordered a Lobster Omelette that was filled with bacon and topped with key lime hollandaise sauce served with a side of banana bread. Enough said.

We couldn't leave Key West and not go to the famous Sloppy Joe's. So later that day we did just that. There were all sorts of people coming in and out of this open air joint. But my favorite were the old people Red Solo Cup bar craw.

If you don't know why this is so awesome click here.

For our last evening we went on a little sunset cruise.

Key West you have rocked my socks and I can't wait till we meet again.

Basketball and Burberry

The Hoosiers are looking good this season and so are the fans! A couple Saturdays back as Indiana was gearing up to take on Purdue this fashionista was gearing up in Burberry Rain Boots, Burberry headband and a red and white striped rugby polo.

Now lets be honest I was feeling like quite the stalker snapping this young ladies photo, but she was in my bar so I figured what the hey! I think her friend was on to me though.

Let Them Eat Cupcakes

I recently helped put together a quaint little baby shower for about 10 ladies. We were trying to play up a Pea in the Pod theme, especially with the cake/cupcakes. But after looking around town no one with in our budget had Pea in the Pod on their list of expertise. So I decided to call up Tara over at Let Them Eat Cupcakes. Just to see if she could help us out. She was more than happy to help. With in minutes she was sending me different styles and flavor options with my theme.

Let me tell you, not only did they look good, but they were delicious! To top off the whole experience they were affordable. About a quarter of the price I have experienced at other cakeries.I would recomend them to any one thowing an event in the Bloomington area.

Dear Teenage Self

One of my favorite bloggers is Layla over at The Lettered Cottage. She recently did a post on the Things I'd Tell My 17-Year-Old Self. The post was so heart felt it brought me to tears (although those of you who know me well know that's easy to do). But it really made me think about the things that I would like to tell my teenage self. No certain age I was pretty much a mess fro 15-21ish.

1. You are not fat! In fact when you look back at your self later you will wonder if you were slightly underweight. But you should develop a healthy work out routine now because it only gets harder if you wait.

2. Spend more time with your family now. It only gets harder as you get older and the bonds that you could be making now will make it easier later.

This especially applies to your grandma Mindy. I know she seems so far out of the loop to you right now, but she will pass far before you are ready for her to and she has a lot to teach you. As it turns out one day you will hope that you turn out just like her.

3. Even though partying seems like the cool older thing to do especially when you are emotionally distraught, doing it to much makes you seem trashy.

4. Spend more time improving your self now when it is easy and not muddled my so many other distractions. This will make you more attractive to those boys that you are so focused on in the long run.

5. Stop worrying so much (I am still working on this one). It really doesn't solve anything. Just do better next time.

Layla also asked her mom who is in her 50's to give us a little insight on what she would tell her 37-Year-Old Self I really enjoyed it as well.

Do you have anything you would like to tell your teenage self?

Merry Christmas to us!

I know that these posts are all sort of out of order but I figured at least I 'm sharing right? This part of the post should probably actually be titled happy birthday Doug but it came a little late, on Christmas Eve to be exact! She is the newest addition to our family. Our new kitten Addison.

If you are wondering why we chose Addison it is NOT because of Private Practice! It is because Wrigley Field sits at the corner of Clark and Addison.

I have to admit I wasn't totally sold on the idea of a kitten. The litter box, the extra hair and the fact that I am really just a dog person. But she needed a good home. And now that she is here, she is really sweet. Lulu isn't 100 percent comfortable with the idea of a sister yet, but she's getting there!

This is Addison drinking out of Lulu's water bowl.

This is after the water bowl tipped just a little to far!

Oh! Also, a big thank you to my wonderful husband for finally getting me those Hunter Wellingtons that I have wanted for so very long!

New Years Eve

This year for New Years a group of our close friends went to dinner at Finch's Brasserie. Then off to the Bluebird to get our jam on with Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band. I tell you, in all my life I have never heard three people make so much damn noise! It was awesome, in a central Indiana rockabilly way, which I am completely into!

Listen for your self.

And the lady...Mrs. Peyton I presume? She has my heart! At the end of the show she caught her wash board on fire and then smashed it against the stage!

Overall we had a fantastic evening with fantastic friends! Besides the great show and great food the Hoosiers won and everyone made it home safe. What more could we ask for? Did you do anything fun on New Years?
